What You'll Do

In assigned region, provide program direction by relieving superior of variety of difficult administrative duties pertaining to the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) Regional Support & Training Program (e.g., respond to programmatic issues &/or needs; lead &/or monitor task forces; plan, write & implement goals & objectives for assigned region; serve as a liaison between administrator & regional contacts & transmits decisions &/or directives); Serve as the face of the OSSC regional support program in assigned zone & facilitates information sharing; Work with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) 16 State Support Teams & regional school resource officers to deliver comprehensive school safety services to schools; Assist with coordinating & implementing trainings, site visits, & the development of threat assessment teams; Operate state vehicle in order to conduct site visits with schools & first responders; Attend events assigned by regional administrator to further OSSC partnerships & information sharing; Assist with executing regional based school safety summits &/or events in assigned area; Identify & share data on region specific needs in training, resources, funding &/or support; Provide technical assistance to local schools & first responders with requests regarding trainings &/or grant opportunities; Analyze & evaluate regional programs, procedures & polices (e.g., formulate & implement policy & programs at the regional level; provide technical advice to aid administrators in decision making; implement statewide policy & programming in regards to school safety programs); Implement statewide best practices in various school safety topics (i.e., cyber safety, threat assessment, school climate, suicide prevention, mental health, emergency management, physical safety, & anti-bullying) as developed by regional administer.

Scan open source social media for threats against K-12 schools, & institutions of higher education to share with analysts & first responders; Promote positive school climate & culture; Assist schools with implementing a comprehensive school safety framework consisting of both physical & emotional safety; Connect schools to mental health supports & agencies; Partner with mobile training officers to provide comprehensive supports to schools; Identify trends in resource gaps & threats within respective regions & share with administrator for follow up.

Coordinate peer support teams across the various disciplines in the state for increased information sharing; Foster strategic partnerships set by the OSSC & conduct regular meetings with stakeholders to share information & updates; Collect contact information for locally based resources for regional & statewide contact directory; Connect schools with OSSC compliance planners for emergency management questions; Connect schools with mobile training officers or additional physical safety training; Provide information for the annual school safety report specific to schools & first responders in assigned region; Assist with the development & implementation of the annual statewide summit; Attend & participate in meetings; Perform other related duties as assigned.

Program area to be assigned: Completion of undergraduate core program in homeland security, emergency management, political science, criminal justice, public safety, business or public administration, education, mental health and counseling or related field.

This position is remote but will require travel to & from schools several days per week by state assigned vehicle.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position.
  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file; 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position or staff position involving planning, research &/or policy/procedure development.
  • Or 1 yr. exp. as Program Administrator 1, 63122.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
