Manufacturing Director of Safety

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Leads and manages the Company’s safety program to develop the desired safety culture and achieve safety objectives.

Monitors all on-site activities to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

construction industry standards, the Company’s safety program, and job-specific safety programs. Leads incident

investigations. Works closely with Operations and job-specific management.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties

and assignments may be assigned at the discretion of management.

  • Develops and manages the Company’s safety program, policies, procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Leads Company safety program orientation.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Coordinates emergency safety plans and procedures, including evacuation, rescue, hazmat records, and fire suppression.
  • Plans and implements safety training
  • Assess the effectiveness of safety program activities, policies, and procedures, and implements changes to improve results and achieve objectives
  • Leads communication activities that promote and raise awareness of desired culture, continuous improvement, and achievements
  • Leads or participates in subcontractor safety meetings.
  • Conducts and supervises others conducting safety inspections.
  • Ensures required inspection data is collected and submitted.
  • Leads investigations of incidents, near misses, and complaints regarding unsafe or
  • unhealthful working conditions or practices.
  • Analyzes inspection and incident information to identify causes and trends, and SAFETY DIRECTOR develops preventive or corrective practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of current OSHA and industry standards, regulations, and construction safety practices and policies.
  • Educates and trains Company management staff and business partners about the safety program and their respective responsibilities.
  • Manages return to work/restricted duty program
  • Reports to Executive Vice-President.
  • Works closely with Operations Management, project-specific management, and Human Resources.
  • Interacts with staff, subcontractors/suppliers, prime contractors, customer representatives, OSHA.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, or safety, or equivalent amount of experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • 10+ years of specialist experience in Safety Health General and Construction Industry
  • Ability to travel to different job sites as required.
  • OSHA 510 Standards for the Construction Industry
  • OSHA 511 Standards for the General Industry
  • OSHA 500 Instructor for General Construction – 30 and 10
