A Director within the Nordstrom Technology organization helps create an inspiring workplace where talented people are empowered to drive customer experiences and business results. They also set the strategic direction for a division or area with broad and deep technical knowledge and a clear line of sight into how the organization’s work advances the business strategy. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to oversee our Inventory Accuracy engineering organization. Inventory is the biggest financial asset at Nordstrom, and the Inventory Accuracy team supports the systems that help us keep financial and physical inventory in sync.

This role requires a breadth of technical expertise, including managing 3rd party software applications (i.e., Oracle’s RMS, SML’s RFID tap), and blending it with home-grown technology to fit our business. The ideal candidate understands the retail business, including merchandising, Inventory Management and Supply Chain, and can effectively bridge business needs into technology outcomes.

  • Drives organizational structures and talent management plans to meet needs of organization. 
  • Identifies and develops leaders, builds teams. 
  • Has ownership and accountability over creating new systems, partnering with 3rd party software providers, and evolving existing systems. 
  • Drives architectural decisions for function and enterprise. 
  • Defines and articulates the strategic vision and drives alignment with the company's goals and market opportunities.
  • Partners with business and product leaders to provide technical advice and influence strategic decision making; collect requirements, map to implementation, and select the right technology. 
  • Utilizes strong leadership, technical acumen, and the ability to navigate complex technology landscapes.

You own this if you have…

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in Technology 
  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise team leadership in dynamic, high-scale environments. 
  • 5+ years and excellent proficiency in vendor integration and tools support. 
  • 5+ years leading and developing teams (preferred)  
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • A proven track record of individual excellence and a demonstrated commitment to making others great.
  • You are intimately familiar with modern software development practices and lean on collaboration in addition to process to drive outcomes. 
  • Strong customer and stakeholder empathy. You must be not only the voice of the customer. You must be able to channel many points of view, synthesize them and drive alignment even in times of friction and disagreement. 
  • Experience working with 3rd party software providers to create business value.
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills. 
  • Strong Leadership and team management skills. 
  • Strong technical background with experience in software development and web technologies. 
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and working with agile teams. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, and analytical skills. 
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $200,500 - $332,000 Annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
