Base pay range
Position: Education Coordinator
Classification: Part-time, 25 hours/week
Reports to: Program Director
Primary Function:
Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the Education Coordinator will develop and lead academic enhancement activities in a trauma-sensitive environment. This includes, but is not limited to, tutoring and homework support for youth and teens ages 6-18.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and assess activities that enhance academic success in mathematics and language arts.
- Develop appropriate instructional programs, materials, and resources that respond to members’ needs and address their age, gender, and cultural diversity.
- Work with a variety of internal and external teams to promote learning and facilitate Education around new initiatives.
- Promote and stimulate members’ program participation.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety, quality in programs, and appearance of Clubhouse at all times.
- Implement program assessment and evaluation through talking to members, participating in observations, administering surveys, and reflecting on teaching practice.
- Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdown of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
- Build collaborative working relationships with staff and parents.
- Supervise and mentor Teen Volunteers.
- Ensure productive and effective work environment.
- Monitor program areas to ensure member safety.
- Communicate with Program Director and staff about class schedules, program needs, objectives, etc.
- Attend and participate in special programs, events, meetings, and training.
In addition to the specific professional job duties, must also possess the ability to:
- Be passionate about working with kids!
- Have experience leading young people through activities, following their curiosities and interests.
- Have skill and knowledge in some combination of the following: mathematics, language arts, social studies, humanities, science.
- Be resourceful, thrifty, and creative with materials, resources, and supplies.
- Work effectively with volunteers, parents, school officials, and other community members.
- Be self-motivated, industrious, and confident in taking initiative.
- Communicate clearly and kindly with co-workers, parents, and children.
- Be dedicated to social justice & culturally responsive teaching.
- Represent the Club positively in the community.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of one year’s experience working with youth.
- Effectively use Microsoft Word, Outlook Mail, and Outlook Calendar.
- Strong knowledge of and experience in literacy and mathematics.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to pass a DOJ fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
