About The Role

These positions will be located in Cambridge, MA and will not have the ability to be located remotely. No travel is required for these positions.

We are ready to welcome you to the Translational Medicine Academy in Biomarker Development – Clinical Imaging and Analytics!

2 years! This is the length of our Academy training program within Biomarker Development – Clinical Imaging & Analytics (BMD- CI&A) in Translational Medicine (TM). Here, you will gain valuable training and experience to help develop your career in the field of Clinical Imaging for drug development.

Through the TM Academy in BMD-CI&A, you will have the opportunity to interact with clinical trial teams to design and implement imaging endpoints in studies designed to test new biological mechanisms across diverse therapeutic areas. As part of the program, you will gain exposure to the operations and logistics surrounding the conduction of clinical trials in a multinational pharmaceutical organization, while also analyzing large imaging datasets to develop, validate, and deploy imaging biomarkers within the translational medicine paradigm.

This program is led by clinical imaging experts and imaging/data scientists, and you will have the chance to apply your own knowledge and strengths to various projects across different disease areas.

The Academy is looking for 3 different profiles:

  • Career starters: recent University degree graduate within the past 2 years (BA, BSc, MSc, MD or PhD)
  • Career changers: professionals wanting to pivot their career into the area of clinical operations
  • Career relaunchers: professionals wanting to return to work after a career break for any reason


The duration of the program is 24 months beginning September 2024.

Role Requirements

  • Interest in clinical research
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degrees welcome to apply.
  • Proven organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently, as well as prioritizing
  • Digital literacy required – Microsoft Office experience preferred.


Technical Requirements

  • Image/Data Science Skills: Proficiency in image analysis and data science techniques, including but not limited to image segmentation, feature extraction, machine learning, and statistical analysis
  • Programming Languages: Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R, with experience in data manipulation, visualization, and analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn)
  • Imaging Software: Familiarity with imaging software packages (e.g., ImageJ, ITK-SNAP, 3D Slicer) and imaging data formats (DICOM, NIfTI)

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $56,000 – $68,000 /year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
