Description

The Sr. Lighting Artist will work closely with the Project Art Director to support the game's environment lighting. The Sr. Lighting Artist drives mood, clarity, and action with their approach. An understanding of both baked in lighting and real-time lighting is required for this role.

Day To Day

Responsibilities

  • Create environment lighting for projects, as needed
  • Work both independently and within a group on various projects
  • Work with the Project Art Director to determine project requirements. Then research, develop, and implement in engine
  • Work with Design to develop level flow, and other departments as needed
  • Work closely with technical artists to develop new or improved techniques to enhance visual quality
  • Stay up to date on current techniques and utilize the most relevant processes for each task

Skills Knowledge And Expertise

Must Haves

  • Understanding of Maya and/or Max
  • Unreal experience is required; familiarity with Unity also preferred
  • Ability to create environment lighting using engine tools or plugins
  • Ability to create lighting based on environment concepts in varying levels of completion
  • Ability to light a scene to enhance and match the mood and impact in the game
  • Ability to support design by lighting with gameplay in mind
  • Ability to keep an organized and consistent schedule
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders, including clients
  • Ability to provide accurate time estimates for project planning
  • Understanding of bug fixing and investigation
  • Ability to help the art team find answers to difficult problems
  • Ability to make visually impactful environment lighting and push the envelope
  • Work effectively with other artists, designers, and engineers to achieve project goals

Nice-To-Have Skills

  • Ability to do general 3D
  • Ability to do a quick first pass of lighting

Education & Experience Required

  • Any degree or certification in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience AND,
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role

Materials Required

Candidate should provide a portfolio of art that they have created or directed on their resume. Depending on experience, an art test may be required.
