typical odd occurrence with ebay

as usual ebay fools with my listings -- i learn to just live with it but its so frustrating -- here it is

my store is supposed to have 1774 items listed -- they say it has 1716 -- i have on sale all my items in the sale section but it only lets me put on sale 1701 items and shows no others that are not on sale -- thats 73 items missing from the sale and 58 items missing entirely no where to be found --- there is nothing in my ended section and nothing in my sold section -- does anyone have a explaination for this it happens every month it used to happen with larger numbers now its only about 50 items on avg. ---- sales lost on those 73 itmes and i will have to at some point do a physocal inventory to see what has be dropped -- i did this about 5 months ago and it took me 2 weeks checking every item against their listing and then taking new pictures and new listings added --- so much work -- any answers out there in wisdom land

eBay policies on license plates

Ebay's policies about selling license plates:

Government-issued IDs, passports, birth certificates or license plates

Collectible license plates are allowed as long as they are expired and at least 3 years old or as allowed by law

I see a lot of license plates for sale that don't follow the rules. I once reported a 2023 stickered plate, here's the reply:

A decision was made on the listing you reported

What happened:
We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence.

So, now feel free to violate the policies, eBay doesn't care of its own!

Potential Mail Strike in Canada

So I was wondering what happens to sellers sending things if there is a potential strike at Canada Post in Novemeber? And what happens to the things that are in transit?

For me the items that I have ordered are in transit so I am also wondering if they will just sit in a warehouse or some mail depot until the strike is over assuming that there is one this month.

Photos uploaded to messages are not being sent to receiver

I have tried to send several messages to buyers requesting more photos. I can upload the photos fine but the receivers never get them. Im my sent folder, only the text is saved, no attachments.

Since we're not allowed to ask for their email addresses, how can I send them the photos they have requested please?

eBay Fees charged on .ca vs .com

Do we have to list prices in US$ on .com?

Are there any financial advantages using the 250 listings allowed on .ca plus

250 more on .com, other than you now can list 500 ?

What are the short commings of using .com when shipping out of Canada?

what are your plans to get throught he strike -- i will close my store for a couple of days to see what happens - if the mail stops -- like they say - after that ,what carrier are you going to use ??? i need advice which is the best to replace can post till the strike is settled

search feature for your own ads

Our store has a physical location as well as our ebay store so sometimes when we sell an item in person we have to manually remove it from ebay. We have over 500 listings on ebay now and i cannot for the life of me find a way of searching our ads for the item to end the listing on. I have to scroll page after page to find it. I know when you click on your username you can search your items but that only lets you view or revise them and doesnt give the option to end them. Is there a place im missing that allows you to search or does ebay make it difficult?

Has ebay removed the searching by country/area

Canada Post Mailing Tube Surcharge

Hi,

I decided to post it here, because this might be a very useful info for some of us.

If we use the CP EST, we are asked about the shape of our package. If we choose the "cylindrical tube", there is a $2 surcharge. However, there is no "cylindrical tube tube" option, if the shipping label is printed through Ebay.

This problem was aready discussed here a few times. I was even contacted by Ebay directly - they asked me to describe the problem and provide more details.

Today, I saw - for the first time - an official confirmation, the the surcharge doesn't apply to Small and Tracked Packets. This is a big game changer for me and for some of us (about 50% of my items are shipped in tubes). Definitely, I will sleep better from now on 😄

Terrible Customer Service Experience

More often than not I have had good customer service experiences with eBay on FB, formerly known as eBay for business. However, occasionally, I have an experience so bad with an eBay rep, such as earlier today, that I believe it requires public discussion.

Background

-Drop shipper buys 2 records from me on a friday. All my record listings state I offer combined shipping. They had 3 days to let me know that records were going to 2 different addresses

-Print label out on Monday (thru eBay), rebate buyer shipping on 2nd record, send them a note to that effect. Still no heads up that records are actually going to 2 different locations

-They message me a few days later irate when both records go to same address (Combined shipping, right??)

-They threaten me with feedback extortion if I don't fix it for them. They already got a $10 shipping rebate on the 2nd record

-I contact eBay on FB, as when the buyer starts making these kinds of threats, best to stop talking to them. Their message is basically wait and see what happens. Ok, fair enough

-A day or two later, a bad review arrives (my 2nd in the past year), incoherent message going on about my shipping their records to WalMart??!

-Contact eBay, they looked up and said yes, I shipped through eBay, used their label, arrived on time, all good and what's the business about shipping to WalMart?! Negative review removed

-Two days later, buyer allowed a second chance at a bad review

-I contact eBay on FB, explain the situation. Agent doesn't read any previous discussions relating to how or why previous negative review was removed just a day or two earlier. Completely disinterested in resolving any issues, just canned "we know this isn't the response you wanted" canned response, on to the next one. I figured must be a poorly trained AI bot.

-I asked to escalate the matter. My experience is that agents do not like doing this but I've escalated before when the agent I was dealing with offered nothing but canned scripts

-Agent came back moments later (same agent) claiming appeal denied. This isn't how escalations work. The whole idea is to get a manager or at least, a different set of eyes looking at the problem. Otherwise, the motivation is just to say, "sorry, you lose" and move on

-Interaction ended with no opportunity for me to provide a review of their service, which is customary. I've asked twice, no response or acknowledement

TLdr, sold a couple a records, buyer received combined shipping, as stated on my listings, buyer received shipping refund, then shocked when records were actually combined. Got nasty, threatened feedback extortion, left bad review, eBay overturned bad review, buyer left a 2nd bad review, eBay allowed that one, 2nd agent pretty much told me to fly a kite.

Hey! So today I guess there was an update of some sort for quick listing or something. My issue is twofold; I used to be able to choose between kg,cm and lbs,in but now i'm hard stuck on lbs,in.
Second issue is with the new "Create Policy" feature, it has me so confused. I can't just choose a shipping service out of a list based on my dimensions/weights given? It's so convoluted, I have to go create policies individually for each weight and dimensions? I'm not sure I get it, and I am asking if there are any solutions to my problems, or any one can relate? Issues are both on Pc (browser) and iPhone App.

The long timers here may recall the saga of my poor old bedraggled Canon SD700 reaching milestones of 100,000 pictures, 125,000 and 150,000 milestones.

Despite its signs of age (much like me many days), the poor power button is half broke but it still turns on and off when needed, the actual picture taking button works fine if it is warm, it appears that I have to set the date and time now often/everytime? I go to use it, but despite all that it keeps on taking pictures!

Today it has reached the 175,000 pictures mark!

I found the last update and it was in 2021, almost to the day, so I'm only doing about 8,250 pictures a year. If you'd have asked me I would have said I take more than that each year, I guess it just seems like it!

I don't know for sure if it'll make the 200,000 mark but time will tell!

250 Free Listings

I am a small seller and do not have (or want) an eBay store. I have about 165 items listed on eBay and see that I am able to have as many as 250 free listings. The period for these shows Oct 1 to Nov 1. the location also shows number of items listed and the number available, out of the allotted 250. As I haven't really been paying attention to these numbers, I am wondering how they affect my listings if I was to increase the 165 number to the max of 250. I think that my listings are based on an eBay 30 day cycle and upon the 30 day expiry of each item, they are automatically relisted as being part of the 250 free listings. Then as new items are added, these would have their own 30 day cycle and would then be relisted as new items. What happens if I exceed the 250 listings doing it this way?? I hope that makes sense to readers. Can anyone clarify if my understanding is not correct.

Single items sales under $15.00 no longer viable on Ebay (unless you sell hundreds)

If you have a single item for $15.00 or under and it fails to sell in six months, you've racked up around $3.00 in fees. Once the sales charges of various types are calculated, you end up with around $9.60 which could be ok, but more likely wiped out any profit above your cost. On the other side of the equation, there is simply too much competition, especially now from dealers and dealers abroad who have government subsidized shipping. Though things may improved once tariffs are levied against foreign sellers who export to the U.S.

Purchased a laptop and received an older variant of it (different configuration)

Hello everyone,

As a buyer (Canada) I recently purchased a laptop (certified refurbished) so it got shipped via the ebay international shipping process.

Upon receiving it, right away i noticed the laptop was (cosmetically) not really "new" and has some chips here and there and got knocked in corners (poor packaging), technicially not what i expected a certified refubished unit be and it did had a "refurbished" sticker by the manufacturer on the back so not sure how genuine refurbished laptops are these days.

The important issue is that, the unit i received was NOT the configuration i ordered and completely different from the advertisied by the seller page, I immediately contacted him and haven't got any response (same-day) so i went right away and requested a return/refund.

Ebay automatically provided me with a return shipping label, so i shipped it out the following day.
Seller finally responded back saying maybe it was swapped during the international hub process and asked if i had a package, that was the last message i received from them after replying that i am returning this.
The package was dropped off on a friday (received the product on thursday) and carrier shipped it out on the following monday, it successfully been received/returned on tuesday (at the international shipping hub).

My question is: I selected "Wrong Item" for reason of the return and provided images (of the damage) and BIOS information to show the configuration was completely different. I realized i could have just selected "item not as describred" but i was panicking and frankly stressed out with the situation so i figured wrong item would make more sense, would this cause a problem?

It's been three days, and I am still stuck at "Your item is being inspected by the seller and you should receive a refund soon" and when checking the details of the order, it says "The item's been delivered
You can expect a refund within 5 to 7 business days"

Pretty disappointed and frustrated with the situation, especially since seller had a 97.5% positive rating. I'm just confused—why did this happen? If it was a certified refurbished item, shouldn't it have been clear what was being shipped out? Did i do the right thing?

Any assurance on this would greatly be appreciated, thank you!

Selling a pure wool sweater that size large when it has been shrunk. Cannot wear it.

This pure wool sweater has been sold as a size large. It has been washed and dried in a dryer. Seller has forced the bust measurements to be made bigger. Sleeves way to short and the length. I am beside myself of paying for a sweater that is way to small. Cannot wear it. If I refund it I will have to pay for the shipping which cost more than the sweater. Seller has another sweater like this in size medium and the measurements are much bigger. I know it was used, but I do not want a shrunken sweater that is way to small.

I just had a sale with calculated shipping. The buyer is asking me to double box the item which is fine with me. The problem is that this will change the measurements and weight. Since the buyer has already paid ( I don't want to charge him extra). When buying my ebay shipping label, can I adjust the measurements & weight which will change the price and ebay will just charge me the extra ? Thanks.

At the end of September, I sent a hockey jersey to Vermont.

The buyer contacted me last week. This was a very patient buyer. Their tracking had not updated for two weeks. The last update had it in Jamaica, New York.

I opened a missing mail report with USPS. This usually gets the ball rolling and results in USPS delivery packages. I politely asked the buyer to give it a week since USPS can sometimes take a few days to resolve a missing mail report. I told them I would contact them by Friday if there was no update.

I look at the tracking this morning. I see an update. GREAT. The package must be on it's way to Vermont, Vermont as in the US state.

Curiously, the last two updates are 'Depart From Transit Office Of Exchange', and 'Original Post Preparing Shipment'. Confused about why Vermont has an Office Of Exchange, I google these terms. Nothing useful comes up. As a last resort, I plug the tracking number into https://parcelsapp.com/en/tracking.

That is a useful website that will sometimes who you additional tracking updates not available on Canada Post or USPS.

The good news is that plugging the tracking number into that site answered my question about the state of the package. The bad news is, it's in AUSTRALIA!

My poor buyer's Drake Batherson Ottawa Senators jersey received a free round trip to Sydney. I don't even know if anybody in Sydney knows what a Drake Batherson is.

I have no idea how USPS mixes up the two bins that say Vermont (US State) and Australia (completely different country half way across the world). If I wasn't so amused at this, I would be angry.

Who has me beat for best free holiday from USPS? Have they ever sent your package half-way across the world, instead of to the USA?
